Wisdom from Chinese Literary and Buddhist Classics

I AM A BUDDHA

Always keeping in mind that “I am a Buddha” can be
very helpful in interpersonal relationships.

Whenever I am communicating with others, I
remind myself that it is the Buddha speaking to
them, and use compassionate and loving words of
wisdom through skillful means.

Whenever I am asked to give a public lecture, I
remind myself that it is the Buddha addressing
them, and use the opportunity to teach according
to their levels of understanding, without fear.

Whenever I am instructing my stubborn disciples, I
remind myself that it is the Buddha guiding them,
and advise them with patience and kindness.

Whenever I am interacting with the timid and weak,
I remind myself that it is the Buddha facing them,
and be amiable while giving them confidence and
hope.

Although we are just ordinary beings who are far
away from Buddhahood, when our every thought is
with the Buddha, then it is as if we are blessed by the
Buddha and have the strength of a buddha. It is just
as the Lotus Sutra says, “One recitation of the
Buddha’s name enables all to attain the Buddha
path.”
